The Honourable Chief Justice Robert Bauman is pleased to advise that there will be a formal ceremony to welcome the Honourable Mr. Justice John Hunter to the Court of Appeal for British Columbia and the Court of Appeal of Yukon. The welcoming ceremony will be held on Friday, 8 September 2017 at 4:15 p.m. in Courtroom 60 of the Vancouver Law Courts.

UPDATED PRACTICE DIRECTIVE: COMMENCING AN APPEAL WHEN UNCERTAIN IF LEAVE TO APPEAL IS REQUIRED (CIVIL PRACTICE DIRECTIVE, 8 MAY 2017)
The Chief Justice has issued Commencing an Appeal When Uncertain if Leave to Appeal is Required (Civil Practice Directive, 8 May 2017). The new directive replaces the directive that required parties who were unsure how to commence their appeal to seek directions on whether leave to appeal is required. It is effective on 8 May 2017.

NEW PRACTICE NOTE: BOOKING CIVIL CHAMBERS APPLICATIONS (CIVIL PRACTICE NOTE, 8 MAY 2017)
The Registrar has issued Booking Civil Chambers Applications (Civil Practice Note, 8 May 2017) concerning the process for booking civil chambers applications. In particular, a new electronic list of available dates will allow civil litigants to book a returnable date for a chambers hearing with confidence that the list will not be closed and without the need to call the registry. It is effective on 8 May 2017. The available dates for chambers list can be found at http://www.courts.gov.bc.ca/court_of_appeal/hearing_list/.

SUPERIOR COURTS JUDICIARY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND SENIOR COUNSEL
The British Columbia Superior Courts Judiciary welcomes the appointment of Heidi McBride to the position of Executive Director of Judicial Administration and Senior Legal Counsel. The appointment is effective June 1, 2017. She replaces Frank C. Kraemer, QC, who is retiring on June 2, 2017.
