WELCOMING CEREMONY - THE HONOURABLE MADAM JUSTICE GAIL DICKSON AND THE HONOURABLE MR. JUSTICE GREGORY FITCH

The Honourable Chief Justice Robert Bauman is pleased to advise that there will be a formal ceremony to welcome the Honourable Madam Justice Gail Dickson and the Honourable Mr. Justice Gregory Fitch to the Court of Appeal for British Columbia and the Court of Appeal of Yukon.

SUPERIOR COURTS COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

British Columbia Court of Appeal Chief Justice Robert Bauman and Supreme Court of British Columbia Chief Justice Christopher Hinkson announce the appointment of the Honourable Bruce Cohen as the Superior Courts Communications Officer.

Mr. Cohen recently retired from the bench after serving the public with distinction for 28 years in the capacity of a Justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia.

In announcing the appointment of Mr. Cohen the Chief Justices recognize the important role that members of the media play in informing the public about the justice system and decisions of the Superior Courts. In this regard, they explained that Mr. Cohen will act as a spokesperson for the Superior Courts and as a liaison between the Superior Courts Judiciary and the media respecting the decisions of the Superior Courts and any initiatives undertaken by the Superior Courts to improve access to justice or to make the Superior Courts' processes more efficient and affordable.

The Chief Justices also noted that the appointment of Mr. Cohen reinstates a position formerly held by the late Honourable Lloyd McKenzie, a retired member of the Supreme Court of British Columbia. During his tenure in the position of Superior Courts Information Officer, Mr. McKenzie acted as a liaison between the Superior Courts and the media in the interests of bringing clarity to the processes and decisions of the Superior Courts.

The Honourable Chief Justice Robert Bauman is pleased to advise that there will be a formal ceremony to welcome the Honourable Madam Justice Lauri Ann Fenlon to the Court of Appeal for British Columbia and the Court of Appeal of Yukon.

This welcoming ceremony will be held on Friday, 2 October 2015, at 4:15 p.m. in Courtroom 60 of the Vancouver Law Courts.

JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS

The British Columbia Court of Appeal welcomes the appointment of the Honourable Madam Justice Gail Dickson, a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, to the Court of Appeal for British Columbia and the Court of Appeal of Yukon. The appointment is effective immediately. 

The British Columbia Court of Appeal welcomes the appointment of the Honourable Mr. Justice Gregory J. Fitch, a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, to the Court of Appeal for British Columbia and the Court of Appeal of Yukon. The appointment is effective 1 September 2015.

COURT OF APPEAL RULE AMENDMENTS

The Court of Appeal Rules and Forms have been recently amended. Among the changes, Rule 56 and related provisions contain new wording and Form 19 (affidavit) has been amended.

The amendments are effective July 24, 2015. For details about all of the amendments, please see the Order in Council.
