This is a day to collectively deepen our understanding of the painful and continuing consequences of Indian residential schools in Canada, to honour the Survivors of those schools and their communities, and to grieve for the children who did not return. It is also a day to consider our collective responsibilities in relation to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action and other guide posts that have the potential to move us toward reconciliation.
