CHILLIWACK LAW COURTS - CLOSURE - JUNE 30, 2021

Due to the extreme temperatures inside the Chilliwack Law Courts, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has directed that the Supreme Court registry at Chilliwack Law Courts has been closed for the remainder of today. The courthouse will reopen on Friday, July 2, 2021.

The Supreme Court is co-located with the Provincial Court in Chilliwack. For more information about the Provincial Court in Chilliwack, please consult the Provincial Court website.

JUDICIAL RETIREMENT - THE HONOURABLE MADAM JUSTICE JANICE R. DILLON

The Supreme Court of British Columbia announces that the Honorable Madam Justice Dillon retired from the Supreme Court of British Columbia at Vancouver on May 31, 2021. Madam Justice Dillon was appointed to the Supreme Court in Vancouver on April 25, 1995.

AMENDMENT TO THREE COURTS' POLICY ON USE OF ELECTRONIC DEVICES IN COURTROOMS

The Three Courts’ Policy on Use of Electronic Devices in Courtrooms confirms that an electronic device may not be used in a courtroom to digitally transcribe a proceeding, and has been amended to clarify that this includes making a transcript using video conference software. The amended Policy may be found here.

JUDICIAL RETIREMENT - THE HONOURABLE MR. JUSTICE WILLIAM EHRCKE

The Supreme Court of British Columbia announces that the Honourable Mr. Justice Ehrcke retired from the Supreme Court of British Columbia at Vancouver on May 3, 2021. Mr. Justice Ehrcke was appointed to the Supreme Court on October 28, 2003.

JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS - MADAM JUSTICE JULIANNE K. LAMB, MADAM JUSTICE LAUREN BLAKE AND MR. JUSTICE JAN BRONGERS

The Supreme Court of British Columbia welcomes the appointment of the Honourable Madam Justice Julianne K. Lamb to New Westminster and the Honourable Madam Justice Lauren Blake and Honourable Mr. Justice Jan Brongers to Vancouver. Public welcoming ceremonies for Madam Justice Lamb, Madam Justice Blake and Mr. Justice Brongers will be held on a date to be scheduled. SUPREME COURT PROCEEDINGS IN PORT COQUITLAM

Effective Monday, April 19, 2021, the Supreme Court will begin sitting at the Port Coquitlam Courthouse for civil and family proceedings, using three courtrooms that are not being used by the Provincial Court. For more information, please see the press release issued by the Attorney General.
