The Supreme Court of British Columbia welcomes the appointment of the Honourable Mr. Justice Matthew Taylor to New Westminster and the Honourable Mr. Justice Andrew Majawa to Vancouver. For more information, please see the press release issued by the Department of Justice. Public welcoming ceremonies for Mr. Justice Taylor and Mr. Justice Majawa will be held on a date to be scheduled. Information about the welcoming ceremonies will be posted on the Court's website.

The Welcoming Ceremony for the Honourable Mr. Justice Peter Edelmann scheduled for March 24, 2020 has been postponed. It will be rescheduled and information about the new date will be posted on the Court’s website.

CALL AND ADMISSION CEREMONY - FRIDAY, MARCH 13, 2020
This event will take place in the Great Hall at the Vancouver Law Courts at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm. There will be approximately 103 candidates being called to the Bar. The ceremony will be conducted by The Honourable Mr. Justice David M. Masuhara in the morning and the Honourable Mr. Justice E. David Crossin in the afternoon.

A Welcoming Ceremony for the Honourable Mr. Justice Peter Edelmann will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at the Vancouver Law Courts in Courtroom 55 at 4:15 p.m. Members of the public are invited to attend the Welcoming Ceremony.

REVISED CPD-4 - PROCEDURE FOR DETENTION REVIEWS UNDER s. 525 OF THE CRIMINAL CODE
The Honourable Associate Chief Justice Holmes has issued an updated version of CPD-4 (Criminal Practice Direction 4 - Procedure for Detention Reviews Under s. 525 of the Criminal Code), which comes into effect on Monday, March 2, 2020. The practice direction was updated to reflect experience with the process to date and to address amendments to s. 525 of the Code, which came into force on December 18, 2019. CPD-4 and electronic versions of the appended forms are posted on the Court website under “Practice Directions - Criminal”.

PD - 57 - COURT-TO-COURT COMMUNICATIONS IN CROSS-BORDER CASES AND PD - 58 - SEALING ORDERS IN CIVIL AND FAMILY PROCEEDINGS
Please be advised that Chief Justice Hinkson has issued two new practice directions, effective February 11, 2020.
Practice Direction 57 adopts the Judicial Insolvency Network’s Guidelines for Communication and Cooperation between Courts in Cross-border Insolvency Matters. It rescinds and replaces Practice Direction 6.
Practice Direction 58, Sealing Orders in Civil and Family Proceedings, clarifies certain aspects of the previous practice direction around sealing of a sealing order. It rescinds and replaces Practice Direction 35.

RETIREMENT - MASTER DOUGLAS BAKER
The Supreme Court of British Columbia announces that Master Baker retired from the Supreme Court of British Columbia at Vancouver on December 31, 2019. Master Baker was appointed as Master of the Supreme Court in Prince George on July 29, 1998 and was transferred to Vancouver in 2007.
