JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT

The Supreme Court of British Columbia welcomes the appointment of the Honourable Mr. Justice Peter H. Edelmann to Vancouver. For more information about Mr. Justice Edelmann, please see the news release issued by the Department of Justice Canada. A public welcoming ceremony for Mr. Justice Edelmann will be held on a date to be scheduled, and information about the welcoming ceremony will be posted on the Court’s website once it is available.

REVISION TO FORM 2 TO PERMIT JOINT APPLICATION BY ACCREDITED MEDIA FOR ACCESS TO EXHIBITS

Form 2: Media Request for Access to an Exhibit has been amended to permit one or more members of the accredited media to make a joint request for access to a particular exhibit (or group of exhibits) on the same terms. The amended Form 2 is available on the Media tab of the Supreme Court website and by clicking here.

CALL AND ADMISSION CEREMONY - FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2019

This event will take place in the Great Hall at the Vancouver Law Courts at 1:30 pm. There will be approximately 104 candidates being called to the Bar. The ceremony will be conducted by The Honourable Mr. Justice Geoffrey B. Gomery.

The Welcoming Ceremony for the Honourable Master Jennifer Keim will be held on Monday, December 2, 2019 at the Kamloopso Law Courts in Courtroom 5D at 4:30 p.m.  Members of the public are invited to attend the Welcoming Ceremony.

JUDICIAL RETIREMENT - THE HONOURABLE MR. JUSTICE KENNETH AFFLECK

The Supreme Court of British Columbia announces that the Honourable Mr. Justice Affleck retires from the Supreme Court of British Columbia at Vancouver on November 5, 2019. Mr. Justice Affleck was appointed to the Supreme Court on June 24, 2011.

WELCOMING CEREMONY - MR. JUSTICE CRERAR AND MR. JUSTICE ROSS - NOVEMBER 7, 2019

The Supreme Court of British Columbia will hold a Welcoming Ceremony for the Honourable Mr. Justice Crerar and Mr. Justice Ross on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at the Vancouver Law Courts in Courtroom 55 at 4:15 p.m. Members of the public are invited to attend the Welcoming Ceremony.

PD-56: NOTIFICATION OF PUBLICATION BAN APPLICATIONS

On October 2, 2019, the Honourable Chief Justice Hinkson issued PD-56: Notification of Publication Ban Applications.  PD-56 will be effective October 28, 2019, and will replace the Practice Direction Re: Publication Ban Notification Project - Expansion to New Westminster, dated October 29, 2009.

JUDICIAL RETIREMENT - THE HONOURABLE MR. JUSTICE GREGORY T. W. BOWDEN

The Supreme Court of British Columbia announces that the Honourable Mr. Justice Bowden retires from the Supreme Court of British Columbia at Vancouver on October 1, 2019. Mr. Justice Bowden was appointed to the Supreme Court on October 2, 2009.
