JUDICIAL RETIREMENT - HONOURABLE MR. JUSTICE IAN C. MEIKLEM

The Supreme Court of British Columbia announces that the Honourable Mr. Justice Meiklem retired from the Supreme Court of British Columbia at Kamloops on December 27, 2018. Mr. Justice Meiklem was appointed to the Supreme Court on October 11, 1991.

This event will take place in the Great Hall at the Vancouver Law Courts at 1:30 pm. There will be approximately 100 candidates being called to the Bar. The presiding Judge will be The Honourable Mr. Justice Kenneth N. Affleck.

SUPREME COURT MASTER COMPETITION

The Supreme Court of British Columbia has openings for the position of Supreme Court Master in Vancouver, Kelowna and Kamloops. Details about the position and instructions for submitting an application can be found here. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter and resume in accordance with the posting instructions. The closing date for the competition is Tuesday, November 27, 2018.

JUDICIAL LAW CLERK PROGRAM RECRUITMENT - 2020 - 2021

Applications will be accepted to the Judicial Law Clerk Program for 2020-2021 starting January 2, 2019. The deadline for applications is Friday, January 18, 2019 at 4:00 pm, with interviews to be scheduled throughout February and March, 2019.

JUDICIAL RETIREMENT - HONOURABLE MR. JUSTICE KEITH BRACKEN

The Supreme Court of British Columbia announces that the Honourable Mr. Justice Bracken retired from the Supreme Court of British Columbia at Victoria on October 28, 2018. Mr. Justice Bracken was appointed to the Supreme Court on March 30, 2007.

AMENDMENTS TO COURT RECORD ACCESS POLICY

The Supreme Court has amended its Court Record Access Policy to incorporate Forms 1, 2, and 3, which facilitate requests by accredited members of the media for access to court exhibits, and requests for access to notices of application and affidavits in criminal proceedings. The current version of the Court Record Access Policy is available here. Forms 1-3 are located under the Media tab on the website.

PD 11 GOWNING POLICY FOR COUNSEL - UPDATED

PD 11 sets out the appearances in civil, family, criminal and quasi-criminal proceedings before the court at which counsel are required to gown, unless the presiding judge directs otherwise. Chief Justice Hinkson has today issued a updated version of PD 11 to clarify that counsel are required to gown for application screening conferences.

Chief Justice Hinkson has issued AN-17 Registry Vetting of Orders, directing that a party or counsel seeking to have a presider sign an order on the bench first have the order vetted by the registry.
