NOTICE: PRACTICE DIRECTION - VANCOUVER NEW WESTMINSTER FIX DATE PROCEDURE
Associate Chief Justice Dohm issued a Practice Direction which establishes a new procedure for fixing dates in criminal proceedings in Vancouver and New Westminster. The purpose of the Vancouver New Westminster Fix Date Procedure is to streamline the process for setting dates and to reduce the number of court appearances to schedule dates for trials and pre-trial conferences in situations where the parties are able to consent to a trial or pre-hearing conference dates. The Vancouver New Westminster Fix Date Procedure will take effect on January 1, 2009.

ANNOUNCEMENT
The Supreme Court of British Columbia announces with deep sadness the death of the Honourable David H. Vickers on November 14, 2009. He was a member of this Court from 1991-2009 until he retired on January 9, 2009. Throughout his career both on the bench and in practice, the Honourable Mr. Vickers had a special empathy for society's less fortunate and was an advocate for the rights of the mentally disabled. The Court extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the Honourable Mr. Vickers.

Mr. Justice Brine was a gifted writer known for his fairness, thoughtfulness and patience.
